Liverpool chief executive Ian Ayre to leave Anfield at end of February after 10 years to front revolution for German second-tier side 1860 Munich

Ian Ayre will end a 10-year association with Liverpool at the end of February after bringing forward his anticipated leaving date.

Liverpool’s Chief Executive announced last March that this would be his final season at Anfield and it emerged last year he had agreed to take on a similar role at TSV 1860 Munich, who are currently in the German second division but are fiercely ambitious to get back into the Bundesliga.

Ayre has spent the last 12 months helping oversee a restructuring of Liverpool’s technical team, with his role of negotiating player contracts and transfer fees being handed over to Michael Edwards, who has been promoted to the role of Sporting Director.
