Chris Woakes has revealed he turned his back on this year’s Indian Premier League in an attempt to extend his England career.
Woakes, 31, was signed by Delhi Capitals for £160,000 in this year’s IPL draft but pulled out last week of a competition that runs for seven weeks from the end of March when he realised he needed to ‘get off the treadmill.’
‘When you get to a certain age you try to weigh up what’s best for you as a player and your family,’ said Woakes, who is competing with Sam Curran for a place in next week’s first Test in Galle.
