Former Crystal Palace defender Paddy McCarthy will take charge against Arsenal on Sunday and have a chance of getting the job until the end of the season if he can spark an upturn in form

Former Republic of Ireland defender Paddy McCarthy will have the opportunity to make the Crystal Palace job his own until the end of the season.

The ex-Eagles defender - who is currently under-21 coach at Selhurst Park - will be handed the task of managing the team against Arsenal on Sunday following the sacking of Patrick Vieira this morning.

Palace chairman Steve Parish is not rushing into making an immediate appointment and will assess the managerial landscape over the next 72 hours.

But there is a will to give McCarthy the job until the summer if he can spark an upturn in results starting at the Emirates on Sunday.
