Everton face the possibility of increased costs for their new stadium despite claiming to have agreed fixed-price contracts for the £550million project.

In a statement released last month Everton said they had 'moved to fix costs with the firm responsible for the construction of the stadium,' but having spoken to several companies involved in the build Sportsmail has learned that the situation is more complex than initially presented by the club.

The primary contractor, Laing O'Rourke, are understood to have agreed to a fixed profit margin with Everton, but have reserved the right to pass on any increase in the cost of materials and supply-chain difficulties to the club.
