Ex-Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry admits Dani Alves would have been a better signing than Jermaine Pennant and Peter Crouch

Former Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry has revealed the club did not buy Dani Alves because they did not want spend their budget on a full back.

The Brazilian full back had been Anfield bound in the summer of 2006, but Liverpool were unable to match the £8million asking price.

Rafa Benitez had prioritised the acquisition of Alves, but the club instead decided to sign two players for the price of one.
