Everton set to make third attempt to sign Rangers right-back Nathan Patterson as manager Rafa Benitez wants to bring in replacement for club captain Seamus Coleman but the Toffees could have to pay £10m to secure the deal

Everton will make a third attempt to sign Rangers right-back Nathan Patterson in January as Rafa Benitez begins to reshape his squad.

Patterson, who is under contract at Ibrox until the summer of 2024, was Benitez’s prime target in the summer but Everton’s attempts to sign him - which culminated in a £5million bid in August - were continually rebuffed.

Benitez is determined to bring in a player who will one day be able to replace club captain Seamus Coleman but Everton may have to go close to £10million to get Patterson, who has established himself in Scotland’s squad.
