English football chiefs threatened clubs with stadium bans on Wednesday night as they vowed to crack down on unruly supporters putting players in danger.

If they are promoted, Nottingham Forest risk being forced to play their first Premier League game this century before a reduced capacity after a fan attacked Sheffield United striker Billy Sharp on the pitch after Tuesday’s play-off semi-final at the City Ground.

The FA have launched an investigation after Forest’s victory on penalties, which set up a meeting with Huddersfield in the final on May 29, was overshadowed.
