British Athletics dealt financial blow as London Anniversary Games set for 4 July are cancelled due to coronavirus while chief admits there will be significant repercussions on income

The London Anniversary Games, scheduled for July 4 and 5 at the London Stadium, have been cancelled.

The annual athletics event, which was launched after the the London 2012 Olympic Games, had been one of the few sporting occasions remaining on the 2020 calendar.

Along with the unlikelihood of spectators being allowed to attend live sporting events for the foreseeable future, there were complications with using West Ham United's London Stadium due to a possible return of the Premier League.

British Athletics announced the decision had been made 'in light of the ongoing global pandemic, with the safety of all athletes, coaches, volunteers, spectators and members of staff, at home in the UK and abroad, the upmost priority.
