Arsenal legend Jens Lehmann blasts fans for disrespecting Arsene Wenger and says players should have tried to 'hit' protesters banner with the ball

Arsenal fans protesting against the continued reign of Arsene Wenger have gone 'too far' and the players should be doing more to defend their manager, says club legend Jens Lehmann.

Wenger's position at the Emirates Stadium has never been more uncertain after last weekend's 3-1 reverse to West Brom. The defeat was their fourth in five Premier League games and saw them drop to sixth in the table.

Before the capitulation had even occurred, a plane flying the banner 'No New Contract #WengerOut' flew over the Hawthorns. By the time the match had ended, many more fans had been persuaded by the message.
