Allan Saint-Maximin given permission to make surprise trip to Monaco for 'checks' as Newcastle winger continues recovery from groin injury

Newcastle winger Allan Saint-Maximin has made a surprise visit to Monaco as he recovers from a groin injury.

Club sources say they were aware of the player's movements — which coincided with his 24th birthday — and gave permission for him to travel.

It is understood he was on the French Riviera for 'checks', although it is not known if they were connected to his injury. The Government has advised against all but 'essential travel'.
