The NBA players have a new union president. At the annual summer meeting of the Board of Player Representatives, Fred VanVleet was elected President of the National Basketball Players Association. VanVleet succeeds former Portland Trail Blazers guard CJ McCollum who finished a four-year term in that office.
VanVleet, a current member of the Houston Rockets, is a nine-year veteran in the NBA. He went undrafted in the 2016 draft and made his way starting in the G League. He played in 37 games for the Toronto Raptors that first season, eventually breaking into a regular role with the club in 2017-18.
