The WNBA is growing after it was announced that Toronto would receive a WNBA franchise, set to begin play in 2026.

Toronto becomes the 14th WNBA franchise, joining the 12 current teams and Golden State, who will begin play next season. But the WNBA isn’t done.

Oregon Live columnist Bill Oram is reporting that there are two separate groups looking to bring women’s basketball to Portland.

The first group is led by the Bhathal family, who owns the NWSL’s Portland Thorns. The other group has backing from former Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard.
