Timberwolves Reportedly Rebuffing Jimmy Butler Trade Offers

The Minnesota Timberwolves are not listening to trade offers for All-Star swingman Jimmy Butler. Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN cites league sources, reporting that Head Coach Tom Thibodeau “doesn’t want to trade Butler, especially in a scenario that would imperil the franchise’s ability to reach the playoffs for a second straight year”.

Butler met with Timberwolves executives earlier this week, causing a stir by requesting a trade. Wojnarowski reported that the Brooklyn Nets, Los Angeles Clippers, and New York Knicks topped Butler’s wish list, but the current article augments:

Butler wants a trade to a team that plans to sign him to a five-year, maximum contract that could be worth $190 million in the summer, and his list could expand based upon the Timberwolves’ and rival teams’ willingness to negotiate a trade for him, league sources said.
