San Antonio Spurs longtime head coach Gregg Popovich will no longer coach the team and instead will become Spurs Team President, according to ESPN’s Sham Charania:
Basketball Hall of Famer Gregg Popovich will no longer be head coach of the San Antonio Spurs and is transitioning to a full-time role as the team’s president of basketball operations, sources told ESPN on Friday.
Popovich has even been present in the Spurs’ facility in recent days, and as much as he wanted to return to his place on the sidelines, he came to the conclusion that he no longer could move forward with the taxing grind of being an NBA head coach, sources said.
