Thorns goalkeeper Britt Eckerstrom announces retirement

Portland Thorns FC goalkeeper Britt Eckerstrom announced on Tuesday that she is retiring after five years in the NWSL, including four with the Thorns from 2017 to 2020.

The 27-year-old goalkeeper played in 26 matches across all competitions during her time in Portland, recording seven shutouts. Eckerstrom played in 20 regular season matches with Portland, tallying 71 saves and five shutouts.

The 2020 season in particular was a successful one for Eckerstrom. She played in six of Portland’s 10 matches across all competitions and put together some solid performances, including an 11-save shutout performance in the quarterfinal of the Challenge Cup against the North Carolina Courage.
