It was bound to happen at some point, especially considering how much success the Portland Timbers had enjoyed on the road to finish up their 2015 season. The Timbers ventured into Southern California for their first regular season road match versus the San Jose Earthquakes, a team that the Timbers had struggles with in joining MLS but they hadn't lost to in the regular season since July 2013. The weather was frightfully Oregon like at match time with a driving rainstorm, and the continued downpour from the preceding days left the Avaya Stadium pitch as a murky, sloppy mess.
