PORTLAND, Ore. – For the first time in the club's MLS history, the Portland Timbers overcame a two-goal deficit to win a match, defeating the Houston Dynamo 3-2 Sunday at Providence Park. Diego Valeri notched a penalty kick brace while Lucas Melano started the comeback with a goal. The Timbers went into halftime trailing by two on goals from Houston's Andrew Wenger and Will Bruin.
Valeri's stoppage-time penalty kick gave the Timbers the game-clinching goal, kicking the ball up the middle and leaving Joe Willis helpless. It was Valeri's second penalty kick goal in the final eight minutes.
