COMMERCE CITY, Colo. – The Portland Timbers lost to the Colorado Rapids 1-0 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park Saturday night in Colorado.
Out-shooting Colorado nine to eight, Portland had a number of good chances in the first half. In the sixth minute, midfielder Diego Valeri teed up a hard shot from distance that forced Colorado goalkeeper Tim Howard to tip it over the bar. Valeri again had a chance in the 34th minute after receiving the ball from forward Fanendo Adi and again, Howard tipped it over the bar. Valeri's best chance came two minutes later after defender Alvas Powell threaded a pass to him and he beat Howard with a rolling shot but the ball hit the back post and bounced away.
