Slaga Scores 23 & Spencer Collects 18 Boards, but Tigers Prevail in WCC Opener

PORTLAND, Ore. --- A pair of Portland sophomores had stellar nights as Darian Slaga poured in 23 points and Julie Spencer collected a career-best 18 rebounds, but the Pacific Tigers opened the West Coast Conference with an 84-74 win over the Pilots on Thursday night at the Chiles Center. The 18 rebounds for Spencer are the most by a Pilot since Amy Pupa had 19 in a game in 2013.

The Tigers (5-7, 1-0 WCC) jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter, but the Pilots (2-10, 0-1 WCC) responded with a lengthy 21-5 run that extended into the second period and tied the game.
