MORAGA, Calif. – Portland freshman Alaia Rubio Perez won the singles title of the Red Draw on Sunday to conclude an impressive showing for the Pilots at the Saint Mary's Invitational. Sophomore Sally Pethybridge was also a finalist of the top flight Blue Draw.
Rubio Perez knocked off Julia Moraes of Sacramento State in a three-set semifinal before fighting off three match points and pulling out a 6-1, 2-6, 7-5 win over Gabriela Tevez of the host Gaels.
Pethybridge won four singles matches including a 6-4, 7-6 semifinals win against Tomi Main of Pacific before falling to San Francisco's Chiho Mushika 6-3, 7-6 in the title match.
