Portland Falls in Five against Santa Clara

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- The Portland Pilots volleyball team fell to Santa Clara in five sets this Saturday at the Leavey Center. The Pilots lost with set scores of 25-20, 25-20, 19-25, 19-25, 9-15.

Senior Shayla Hoeft and juniors Liz Reich & Kassidy Naone all had at 14 or more kills. Junior Kellie Hughes recorded her fourth double-double of 2019, posting 39 assists and 15 digs.

Portland (10-9, 2-6 WCC) came out in front early in the first set, gaining a 7-3 lead thanks to two service aces from junior Carey Williams. The Broncos (14-7, 4-4 WCC) rallied late to make it 21-20, but Naone's fourth kill of the set capped a 4-0 Portland run, the Pilots winning the first at 25-20.
