DAVIS, Calif. – Portland opened weekend play at the Golden State Invitational with a 7-0 sweep of New Mexico State on Friday at the Marya Welch Tennis Center. Portland improves to 7-1 overall this spring, while the Aggies fall to 7-5.
The Pilots were challenged early after NMSU won by a 6-4 margin at No. 3 doubles. Portland's No. 3 tandem of Pierre Garcia and Felix Fan evened the score with a 7-5 win at No. 2 before Pilot duo Michail Pervolarakis and Mathieu Garcia pulled out a tiebreaker at No. 1 to secure the point.
"Today was a really good test for us," Portland head coach Aaron Gross said.
