PORTLAND, Ore. --- Portland's Taryn Ries claimed a hat trick and Jamie Rita scored the game-winner in the 86th minute as the Pilots recovered from an early deficit to stun the Oregon State Beavers and win their season-opener 4-3 at Merlo Field on Wednesday afternoon. It's the third career hat trick for Ries and the first since her sophomore campaign in 2018.
After the Beavers scored twice in the game's first 14 minutes, Ries pulled one back when the Pilots were awarded a penalty. Ries was taken down in the box to earn the free attempt, and she'd slot it in to make it a 3-1 game in the 29th minute.
