PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Pilots outscored the Pepperdine Waves 14-5 in overtime in an 85-76 West Coast Conference men's basketball victory Thursday night at the Chiles Center. Freshman forward Tahirou Diabate led the Pilots with 19 points and seven rebounds, while D'Marques Tyson and Josh McSwiggan added 16 each.
Despite foul trouble to numerous key players, the Pilots (9-15, 3-8 WCC) controlled the game throughout regulation and were up six with less than 40 seconds left in regulation, but the Waves buried a pair of threes to force overtime.
Portland freshman guard Marcus Shaver Jr. came up big in the extra session with seven points and Diabate had a clutch shot-clock beating jumper as the Pilots pulled away.
