The Pilots fought hard, but a late jumper from St. Mary’s Joe Rahon gave the Gaels the edge they needed to walk away with a win. Portland fell to St. Mary’s 74-72 in the Chiles Center on Thursday night.
With the loss, the Pilots drop to 5-10 in West Coast Conference play and 11-17 overall, while the Gaels improve their record to 12-3 in the WCC and 21-4 overall.
Portland changed their starting lineup inserting freshman guard Jazz Johnson for his first career start.
Emmett Naar led the Gaels with 18 points.
