Pilots Denied by the Frame Three Times as Santa Clara Prevails 4-1

PORTLAND, Ore. --- Kimberly Hazlett scored her first goal of the season and the Pilots hit the frame three times, but in the end it was the Santa Clara Broncos who came away with a 4-1 win over Portland in a West Coast Conference women's soccer game played on Friday night at Merlo Field. Portland's Taryn Ries hit the crossbar twice in the first half, and Natalie Muth bounced one of the post moments later.

Ries first rattled the woodwork in the 18th minute with the Pilots (3-9-1, 0-3-0 WCC) trailing 1-0. She was on the receiving end of ball flicked on by Hannah Griffiths Boston, and Ries had the keeper beat with a shot that drilled the bar.
