SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Portland men's tennis team defeated Marquette by a 5-2 margin in non-conference action Sunday afternoon at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club.
The Pilots took the top two doubles matches to set the tone early and then won four of the six singles matches in straight sets.
"We played at one of the most beautiful clubs in America," Portland head coach Aaron Gross said. "We had to win in kind of a scrappy fashion. We were effective, but definitely not beautiful. I think the difference today for us was our doubles.
