PORTLAND, Ore. --- The Saint Mary's Gaels clinched a share of the West Coast Conference regular season title with a 5-2 win over the Portland Pilots to conclude 2016 on Sunday afternoon at Joe Etzel Field. Sunday was senior day, and the Pilots honored their 12 seniors who were making their last appearance.
The game was close for most of the afternoon as it began as a pitchers' duel. Portland starter Kevin Baker was cruising early on, striking out five during the first two innings. His counterpart from Saint Mary's, Cameron Neff, matched Baker pitch-for-pitch as neither team was able to produce much offensively during the first couple of innings.
