SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Portland freshman Sema Pankin has been named the West Coast Conference Singles Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Pankin went 2-0 last weekend with wins at the No. 1 singles position against opponents from Loyola Marymount and Pepperdine. He posted his first career victory against a ranked opponent with a thrilling three-set win against No. 108 Lukas Moenter of LMU on Friday. Pankin took the first set 6-3, but dropped the next set. He came back with a late break in the third to force a tiebreaker and won the final three points to take the match 8-6 in the tiebreaker.
