SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- Sophomore midfielder Rey Ortiz is the West Coast Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week after scoring the game-winner during Portland's 1-0 shutout over the Gonzaga Bulldogs at Merlo Field on Saturday night. It's the second time this season to nab the conference's weekly honor for Ortiz.
Ortiz entered the weekend as the nation's leader in assists, but it was his goal against the Bulldogs, which came on a world-class finish, that provided a 1-0 win for the Pilots. The lone goal of the night happened in the in the 35th minute, and it was set up by Erik Edwardson and Spencer Myers left of the 18-yard box.
