PORTLAND, Ore. --- The Portland men's cross country team was picked to finish second in the West Coast Conference, while the women's team was slated to finish third in the league's 2016 preseason poll, which was released on Friday. The Pilots also landed three on the All-WCC Preseason teams.
The men's cross country team, ranked fifth on the West Coast and No. 23 nationally, finished just seven points behind preseason favorite and 13th-ranked BYU, who received six first-place votes from the WCC coaches.
Portland senior Danny Martinez and redshirt-sophomore Nick Hauger were selected to the All-WCC Preseason Team.
