PORTLAND, Ore. --- Portland women's soccer alum Megan Rapinoe ('08), who helped lead the U.S. Women's Soccer team to their second straight FIFA World Cup title, was named the Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of the Year. It's been quite a year for Rapinoe, who claimed the 2019 Ballon d'Or, was named the The Best FIFA Women's Player of 2019.
She collected both the Golden Ball and Golden Boot Awards at the World Cup, after finishing with six goals and three assists.
Rapinoe scored in four of the six matches she played at the World Cup and had the game-winning assist against Sweden in the final group game.
