DAVIS, Calif. -- Portland junior Mathieu Garcia dropped a hard-fought three-set match in the singles finals of the top draw on Sunday as the Pilots concluded their run at the Aggie Invitational. Garcia, the No. 3 seed in the draw, lost to No. 4 seed Bjorn Hoffmann of California 7-6, 1-6, 7-6.
"Mathieu played a very good match," Portland head coach Aaron Gross said. "He won quite a few more points than he lost over the course of the match, but that's the nature of tennis scoring. It comes down to a few points that separate really good players and it easily could have gone Mathieu's way today.
