PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland senior center Philipp Hartwich recorded career-highs of 10 points, 18 rebounds and six blocked shots, but the Portland State Vikings rallied with a 12-0 run to end the game and steal an 80-75 victory in the regular season opener for both schools Saturday night before 3,019 fans at the Chiles Center.
The Pilots (0-1) showed their youth and inexperience late as seven freshmen and sophomores played key minutes. Leading 75-68 with 2:23 remaining, the Pilots would go scoreless from that point forward and the Vikings took advantage by forcing turnovers and making big plays.
