PORTLAND, Ore. --- The Boise State Broncos edged the Portland Pilots 1-0 on Sunday afternoon to conclude the Nike Invitational at Merlo Field. The game was evenly played as both teams exchanged shots, and Portland was denied by the post at the end of the first half.
It was Taryn Ries who ran onto a ball in space on a counter during the final seconds of that first half. The freshman somehow got a shot off with her left foot from a tight angle that had the Boise State keeper beat. But the shot from about 15 yards out hit the post and dropped straight into the arms of Tara Fisher as the clock ran out, and the two teams entered the locker room scoreless.
