Balanced Effort Leads Pilots Past San Jose State

PORTLAND, Ore. – Sophomore Josh McSwiggan scored 14 points to lead four Portland players in double figures as the Pilots defeated San Jose State by a 64-55 margin Saturday night in non-conference basketball action before 2,098 fans at the Chiles Center.

Freshman point guard JoJo Walker added 13 points and five assists, freshman guard Marcus Shaver Jr. finished with 11 points and sophomore Franklin Porter added 10 points for the Pilots (4-6).

Defense was the key for Portland as the Spartans (2-7) were held to 35 percent shooting for the game.

Ryan Welage scored a game-high 21 points for San Jose State, but had just six points and one field in the second half.
