There are plenty of NFL rumors buzzing after week of the NFL preseason around Antonio Brown & Dak Prescott. The Cowboys QB reportedly is asking for $40 MM/year which would make him the highest paid player in the NFL. The Raiders traded for Brown this offseason and knew they would be getting drama along with it, but I’m not sure Jon Gruden expected frostbite and a football helmet to get in the way of his star playing suiting up in 2019. Week 1 of the 2019 NFL Preseason is done, so it’s time to assign some Winners and Losers. We’ve got one winner and loser from each of the 32 NFL Teams and that means good NFL news for some and bad news for others. We focused more on the notable names, like Daniel Jones, David Montgomery, Mack Wilson, Brian Burns, Teddy Bridgewater, Kyler Murray, Dwayne Haskins, Nathan Peterman and a whole lot more. Oh, and we’ve got NFL scores as well. On the winner’s side, several young quarterbacks impressed in early action. Those players include Daniel Jones, Paxton Lynch, Ryan Tannehill, Kyler Murray and Nathan Peterman. Several rookies also impressed, highlighted by David Montogomery, Preston Williams, Mack Wilson, Brian Burns, Drue Tranquil, Jalen Hurd, Darwin Thompson and Taylor Rapp. On the Loser’s side, Dwayne Haskins struggled in his first action. However, it’s not time to panic quite yet. However, the Texans might want to start worrying about their offensive line and the Jaguars might need more help at the backup QB spot. Coming off a 4-12 season, the San Francisco 49ers had a lot of room for improvement. With key additions like Dee Ford, Nick Bosa and Tevin Coleman, it appears that the 49ers offseason moves have set them up for a successful 2019 season. Possibly even as a playoff contender if you ask Veteran OL, Joe Staley. Staley spoke about the growth across the board that he’s seen during training camp and attributed the roster-wide rebuild to a shift in team culture. Kyle Shanahan’s new emphasis on load management and player health with worth taking note of, particularly in regards to Dee Ford and his ongoing issue with tendonitis. The 49ers traded for the veteran defensive end in an effort to bolster their defense who ranked 22nd in the league in sacks last year, however, they’ll have to wait to get Ford plugged in. After undergoing a platelet-rich plasma treatment on his knee, Dee Ford will miss at least a week and possibly the first preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys. After practice York spoke to Shanahan and let’s just say, the 49ers aren’t going to run that play again. With week 1 of the NFL Preseason just days away, training camp battles are heating up especially for quarterbacks like Dwayne Haskins and Josh Rosen. The Washington Redskins drafted Haskins #15 overall in the 2019 NFL draft and with Alex Smith out rehabbing his leg injury, many people expected Haskins to be the starter right away. That was, of course, until the Redskins released their first unofficial depth chart with the Ohio State QB at the third-string spot. Fifth year vet Colt McCoy is tagged as QB1 with Case Keenum in at the backup position. It appears that head coach Jay Gruden is prioritizing experience over the upside Haskins brings. Rosen was traded to Miami from the Arizona Cardinals during the offseason and according to all reports, he is closing the gap in the QB competition. All signs have pointed to Ryan Fitzpatrick starting over Rosen, however, Dolphins head coach Brian Flores said Rosen has improved “across the board.” Rosen is coming into the 2019 season with a chip on his shoulder, could this be the year that he lives up to the hype or will he find himself on the move yet again? The Houston Texans cut RB D’Onta Foreman, starting a lot of buzz for a Melvin Gordon tradeHouston says they won’t try to trade for the Chargers RB. Reports suggest that the Texans are looking for a backup to Lamar Miller and Gordon is far too expensive. Unlike the Texans, the Philadelphia Eagles have plenty of depth at the RB position, with Miles Sanders stealing the show. The 2nd round draft pick out of Penn State has been turning heads at training camp and has drawn comparisons to LeSean McCoy. Jordan Howard was traded to the Eagles during the offseason but Sanders is on the path to the starting role. Andrew Luck is sitting out while Tom Brady is getting paid. Luck is still rehabbing his calf strain, but isn’t worried about missing any regular season games for the Colts. Tom Brady on the other hand is healthier than ever, landing the 42-year-old a two-year extension with the New England Patriots. Brady will go from making $15MM to $23MM this season. While Brady is showing no signs of slowing down, the Patriots have the option in 2020 to restructure or pull the plug on the deal.
