Description

Coming off a 4-12 season, the San Francisco 49ers had a lot of room for improvement. With key additions like Dee Ford, Nick Bosa and Tevin Coleman, it appears that the 49ers offseason moves have set them up for a successful 2019 season. Possibly even as a playoff contender if you ask Veteran OL, Joe Staley. Staley spoke about the growth across the board that he’s seen during training camp and attributed the roster-wide rebuild to a shift in team culture. Kyle Shanahan’s new emphasis on load management and player health with worth taking note of, particularly in regards to Dee Ford and his ongoing issue with tendonitis. The 49ers traded for the veteran defensive end in an effort to bolster their defense who ranked 22nd in the league in sacks last year, however, they’ll have to wait to get Ford plugged in. After undergoing a platelet-rich plasma treatment on his knee, Dee Ford will miss at least a week and possibly the first preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys. Ford’s absence gives players like Nick Bosa, Arik Armstead, and Ronald Blair III an opportunity to step up and get valuable reps. LIKE this video & LOVE the 49ers? At practice, HC Kyle Shanahan ran a version of the Philly Special, converting Jimmy G to a receiver, and CEO Jed York had some thoughts about it. After practice York spoke to Shanahan and let’s just say, the 49ers aren’t going to run that play again. With 4 years remaining on his 5-year, $137.5 MM contract keeping Garoppolo healthy is a top priority. Luckily for the 49ers, there is plenty of depth at the WR position-- possibly even too much. Kyle Shanahan explained he doesn’t “see any guys that are just for sure starters or for sure backups,” which is maybe the reason the 49ers have yet to release their preseason depth chart. Lucky for you, 49ers Daily host Thomas Mott makes his predictions of where he expects to see the WR corps landing on the 49ers 2019 WR depth chart. Another position battle to watch is the safety between Jimmie Ward, Tarvarius Moore and Adrian Colbert. Who will be named the starter come week 1 of the regular season?
