Dallas Cowboys safety Xavier Woods suffered a high ankle sprain in Week 2 vs. the Washington Redskins and is expected to miss time and potentially as long as 4-6 weeks, including the upcoming game against the Miami Dolphins. With Xavier Woods’ status uncertain and the safety position thin, the Cowboys might consider bringing in some outside help to lineup opposite of Jeff Heath. Host Tom Downey throws out five options the Cowboys could sign as a replacement for Woods. Xavier Woods played in 86% of the defensive snaps for the Cowboys in 2018 som replacing him is a tall task. Currently the Cowboys have Darian Thompson, Kavon Frazier and preseason standout Donovan Wilson to help fill the role, but could George Illoka or Eric Berry be a better fit? Eric Berry, former Kansas City Chief, was linked to the Cowboys back in free agency even coming to Dallas for a visit before the Cowboys ultimately moved on. Berry comes with his own set of concerns with recent injuries raising questions about his ability to stay on the field. Josh Jones, former 2nd round pick, is set to workout for the Cowboys today. Jones had a short lived career with the Green Bay Packers starting 12 games across two seasons before being waived in August. In 2018, Jones allowed 20 of 27 completions and has 100 tackles, 3 sacks and 1 interception for his career. Tom names Jones as a favorite to land the replacement gig.
