The latest Dallas Cowboys news is that the Cowboys have signed Jaylon Smith to a 5-yr, $64MM contract extension with $35.5MM guaranteed. Jaylon Smith is the second player to re-sign with the Cowboys this offseason, following DeMarcus Lawrence’s 5-yr, $105MM contract extension earlier this Summer. However, with 2 years left on his current contract, it comes as a surprise that he was signed before players such as Dak Prescott, Amari Cooper or Ezekiel Elliott. Elliott also has two years remaining on his contract, but he has been in Cabo, Mexico holding out from the Cowboys training camp. As a result, the Cowboys decided to pay Jaylon Smith, possibly sending a sign to the Cowboys RB. Jaylon Smith’s contract makes him the sixth highest-paid ILB in the NFL, behind players such as Bobby Wagner, C.J. Mosley, Deion Jones, Anthony Barr & Kwon Alexander. Smith’s contract is very team-friendly at a rate of $12.8MM per year.
