Jaylon Smith Contract Details On Extension With Cowboys: It’s A Team-Friendly Deal

Episode 482

The latest Dallas Cowboys news is that the Cowboys have signed Jaylon Smith to a 5-yr, $64MM contract extension with $35.5MM guaranteed. Jaylon Smith is the second player to re-sign with the Cowboys this offseason, following DeMarcus Lawrence’s 5-yr, $105MM contract extension earlier this Summer. However, with 2 years left on his current contract, it comes as a surprise that he was signed before players such as Dak Prescott, Amari Cooper or Ezekiel Elliott. Elliott also has two years remaining on his contract, but he has been in Cabo, Mexico holding out from the Cowboys training camp. As a result, the Cowboys decided to pay Jaylon Smith, possibly sending a sign to the Cowboys RB. Jaylon Smith’s contract makes him the sixth highest-paid ILB in the NFL, behind players such as Bobby Wagner, C.J. Mosley, Deion Jones, Anthony Barr & Kwon Alexander. Smith’s contract is very team-friendly at a rate of $12.8MM per year. Cowboys Report host breaks down all of the details of Jaylon Smith’s contract & compares him among the highest-paid LB in Bobby Wagner. Tom also breaks down how this affects the Cowboys current cap space & he responds to your comments & questions regarding the Cowboys breaking news. How would you grade Jaylon Smith’s contract extension: A, B, C, D or F? Who will be the next Cowboy to be re-signed? See what Tom thinks on the latest edition of the Dallas Cowboys Report! Ezekiel Elliott Back To Cabo, Amari Cooper Injury, DeMarcus Lawrence Return | Cowboys News

Episode 481

Cowboys News is breaking today, as Jaylon Smith has agreed to a contract extension with the Dallas Cowboys, before Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott and Amari Cooper! The contracts details, for now are not known, but we know where Ezekiel Elliott is: He’s back in Cabo. In Cowboys Rumors, Demarcus Lawrence and Tyrone Crawford are set to be activated off the PUP list after entering Cowboys camp injured. Lawrence, the All-Pro defensive end, was rehabbing from shoulder surgery to repair a torn labrum from the 2018 season. Certainly the Dallas Cowboys are happy to see Tank return before week 1 of the regular season after signing him to a five-year, $105 million contract extension in April. Tyrone Crawford is also on track to return after undergoing off-season hip surgery. Crawford and Lawrence will go through individual drills as a first step and are expected to be fully healthy when the Cowboys host the New York Giants in the season opener. Ezekiel Elliott is one player who we might not see suit up come week 1. Elliott has been absent the entire training camp, electing instead to train in Cabo while in a contract holdout with the Cowboys. Earlier in the week, Zeke was spotted on a plane back to Dallas… but only for two days. According to reports, Elliott returned home for more clothes and a haircut before heading back down to Mexico. There is still no advancements as far as contract negotiations go and after Jerry Jones’ “Zeke Who?” comments following preseason game vs. the Rams, it appears both sides are playing hard ball. Elliott’s agent, Rocky Arceneaux, said that his client wasn’t amused by Jones’ humor, “I didn’t think it was funny and neither did Zeke – we actually thought it was disrespectful.” So, the holdout drags on...Who will blink first? Amari Cooper, Byron Jones and Noah Brown are all still on the injury report. Cooper, who was previously diagnosed with a heel bruise turned ligament issue, was held out of practice today. At what point do we start to panic a little? Amari will likely sit out the remaining preseason games but all signs point to Cooper returning for regular season opener. But in some good news, Sean Lee is back! In other Cowboys Rumors, will Taryn Christion surpass Mike White as the #3 QB? Is there a punter battle brewing between Kasey Redfern or Chris Jones? And why did the Cowboys send a scout to the 49ers vs. Broncos game? Could there be a Cowboys trade? Here is a full list of Cowboys injury updates: Amari Cooper: Heel, OUT Byron Jones: Hip, “right on schedule” Noah Brown: Knee, OUT and appears behind Blake Jarwin: Foot, OUT Dalton Schultz: Ankle, OUT Zack Martin: Foot, OUT Tyron Smith: Back, OUT Connor McGovern, Pec, OUT And here’s the full list of Cowboys Rumors + News discussed: - Cowboys Extend Jaylon Smith - Zeke back to Cabo - Zeke Upset With Jerry Jones - Tank Lawrence is Back - Tyrone Crawford also back - Still No Amari Cooper - Is There A Punter Battle? - Taryn Christion’s Role - Cowboys Scouting Broncos & 49ers? Amari Cooper Injury Update, Tony Pollard Hype & Dak Prescott Contract Talks | Cowboys Rumors

Episode 476

The latest Dallas Cowboys news & rumors are focusing on Amari Cooper, Tony Pollard, Dak Prescott & Taco Charlton. Amari Cooper is reportedly dealing with a “bruised heel” this NFL offseason, but the latest reports from Mickey Spagnola suggest that it is “more of a ligament thing.” This could mean that Cooper could potentially be dealing with plantar fasciitis. Should the Cowboys be concerned with Amari Cooper’s injury? Plus, there has been a lot of hype surrounding rookie RB Tony Pollard. With the Zeke holdout ongoing, Pollard has been getting a majority of the reps with the 1st team & he has been impressive all across the board. Jerry Jones even said Pollard “can carry the whole load.” What will Pollard’s role be on the Cowboys offense? Perhaps the biggest Cowboys news this week is Dak Prescott’s contract talks. Prescott reportedly rejected the Cowboys contract offer of $30MM per year & there have been conflicting reports that Prescott’s agent requested $40MM a year for his contract extension. However, Pro Football Talk says that Dak asking for $40 million per year is fake news. How much should the Cowboys pay Dak Prescott? In other Cowboys training camp updates, the Cowboys continue to hype up Tony Pollard. Just how big a role will he play? There are also two other UDFAs who have impressed so far: Daniel Wise and Ricky Walker. Do you love the Cowboys? Cowboys Preseason Week 1 Winners & Losers: Blake Jarwin, Michael Gallup, Trysten Hill & Brett Maher

Episode 475

The Dallas Cowboys battled against the San Francisco 49ers in week 1 of the 2019 NFL preseason, but came up short in a 17-9 loss versus the Niners. Dak Prescott played one drive, but the majority of the Cowboys starters did not get any action. Travis Frederick is an exception as he played in his first game in over a year. A lot of the younger players are battling for spots on the Cowboys roster & preseason is the prime opportunity for these players to make an impression. Cowboys Report host Tom Downey breaks down the biggest winners & losers for the Cowboys vs. 49ers, featuring players such as Cooper Rush, Tony Pollard, Blake Jarwin, Trysten Hill, Brett Maher & more. Blake Jarwin impressed as he hauled in 4 of his 5 targets for 51 receiving yards. Other notable Cowboys receivers include Devin Smith, Cedrick Wilson & Michael Gallup, who only had two receptions but drew a pass interference call that would’ve likely resulted in a catch. Tony Pollard had a limited number of reps, but he comes out a winner because the Cowboys showed they like to move him around as an offensive weapon. On defense, Chidobe Awuzie & Jourdan Lewis had strong showings by keeping opposing receivers locked up during their short stints on the field. Rookies Luke Gifford & Donovan Wilson each made an impact by snagging interceptions vs. the 49ers. They are off to a good start. Mike White did not look so hot. His most notable play was a fumble which resulted in a turnover. Jon’Vea Johnson hauled in 3 catches on 8 targets & 2nd round draft pick Trysten Hill was practically non-existent. Brett Maher was decent, but he missed a FG which brings worries about his inconsistency which stems from the 2018 season. Who were the Cowboys biggest winner & loser from week 1? Find out on the latest edition of the Dallas Cowboys Report! Winners vs. 49ers: Travis Frederick Cooper Rush Tony Pollard Michael Gallup Cedrick Wilson Blake Jarwin Jourdan Lewis Chidobe Awuzie Taco Charlton Joe Jackson Donovan Wilson Luke Gifford? Cowboys training camp is in full motion as they gear up for their first 2019 NFL preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers on August 10th. The most notable Cowboys news is Robert Quinn’s suspension & injury. Robert Quinn was suspended for 2 games for reportedly testing positive for a PED substance. Quinn’s agent says it is a substance he uses for his seizures, but it is unknown whether or not Quinn will appeal the suspension. Quinn fractured his left hand in yesterday’s & it will require surgery. However, Quinn is expected to be ready for week one of the regular season. Ezekiel Elliott’s holdout is still in effect, but Jerry Jones & Stephen Jones are confident that they will be able to get a deal done with the All-Pro RB. Plus, kicker Brett Maher has been struggling during Cowboys camp & it has not been pretty. Out of 10 Cowboys practices, Maher has had a perfect day only once. Over a two-day span, Maher missed kicks from 32 & 33 yards out, which brings concern to Cowboys fans & personnel. Should the Cowboys be worried about Brett Maher? Is Brett Maher on the hot seat? Will the Cowboys bring in some competition such as Matt Bryant? Also, Tony Pollard has made a great first impression during his time at NFL training camp. QB Dak Prescott is raving about the Cowboys rookie, saying he brings a versatile skill set to the Cowboys offense & he is doing everything right. Could Pollard be a potential breakout candidate for the Cowboys in 2019? Do you love the Cowboys? Subscribe to the Cowboys Report for more Cowboys Rumors & News all offseason long: https://www.youtube.com/dallascowboysreport?sub_confirmation=1 In other Cowboys news, the Cowboys have made some recent roster moves by signing TE Marcus Lucas & OL Juwann Bushell-Beatty. To make room for these players, the Cowboys cut OL Derrick Puni & WR Lance Lenoir. Lance Lenoir is the most notable name on this list, but Lenoir will require surgery on his patellar tendon, so it was the right move. Could this be the last we see from Lance Lenoir, who has been a fan favorite over the years? Only time will tell. The Cowboys are reportedly looking to trade an OL or DL to shore up another position before the start of the regular season. The Cowboys are loaded on both lines so they have valuable assets they can use to trade for. The only question is, what position should the Cowboys trade for?
