A year after holding rushers back, it sounds like the Steelers want to put the blitz back in Blitzburgh. Some would argue it can’t come soon enough to inject a spark into the pass rush. A season ago, they tied for 16th in the league in sacks with 40, and haven’t hit 50 in years.
The Steelers also ran fewer blitzes than they typically do, hoping to generate pressure with a four-man front. Part a byproduct of less optimal blitzers and shaky secondary, the plan didn’t work as successfully as desired. But now, having retooled the personnel, it seems they are ready, willing, and eager to get back to it.
