Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth joked earlier in the week that new tight end Jonnu Smith needed to score a touchdown first in the Black and Gold to get his own chant from fans.
Smith didn’t wait very long in the season opener to find pay dirt.
On a jet touch pass from quarterback Aaron Rodgers, Smith raced in — behind a great block from Freiermuth — for a 2-yard touchdown, giving him his first touchdown as a Steeler.
Acquired via trade on June 30 in a blockbuster that featured Minkah Fitzpatrick heading to Miami and Jalen Ramsey coming with him to Pittsburgh, Smith got off to a slow start with the Steelers, dealing with a nagging injury in training camp that kept him limited.
