Mike Tomlin will not be coaching the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2026. But, he wasn’t fired. Tomlin stepped down from his position on Tuesday, which is crucial, since Art Rooney II’s Steelers still hold Tomlin’s rights as he was under contract.
Naturally, that’s raised some questions. Particularly about the Steelers getting some potential compensation if Tomlin does decide to coach again with another team. But the sense Art Rooney II has, after speaking with Tomlin, is that the former Steelers head coach won’t be back on the sidelines anytime soon.
“Mike indicated that he did not anticipate coaching, at least not in the near future.
