The Steelers 3-0 start is still impressive despite their opponents’ win-loss record

Whenever the Steelers upcoming schedule is released each spring, there’s at least one person who examines the whole thing and points to one or two “Tomlin losses” he or she feels the team will suffer because, well, that’s what always happens.

Had the Steelers opened their 2020 schedule with a loss to either the Giants or Broncos, two opponents that finished under .500 in 2019, that certainly would have qualified as a “Tomlin loss.” Even a loss to the Texans, who, like New York and Denver, faced Pittsburgh without a victory in the win/loss column, surely would have had fans chirping about an underachieving performance, even if Houston was a far more formidable foe.
