The Steelers released safety J.J. Wilcox, one day after they selected two safeties in the draft.
The Steelers acquired Wilcox for a sixth-round pick just before the start of last season. But Wilcox struggled to find a niche with the Steelers, both in the secondary and on special teams.
Wilcox played just 207 defensive snaps last season after falling out of favor early in the season. By late in the season, the Steelers were making Wilcox inactive because he was committing too many penalties on special teams.
Wilcox registered 12 tackles in 12 games last season.
