The Pittsburgh Steelers ripped off the Band-Aid with the waiving of $10 million offseason acquisition Darius Slay. He wasn’t playing up to the standard they needed from him, and they had another starting-capable corner waiting in the wings. Asante Samuel Jr. made his Steelers debut against the Buffalo Bills last Sunday with Slay a healthy scratch. Now they plan on speeding up his integration into the defense.
“He was competitive. He showed the quickness we see in practice. I like what he’s done. As we move forward, we’ll try to accelerate him,” DC Teryl Austin told the media on Thursday, via P-G’s Ray Fittipaldo on X.
