Last October, Ilkin announced he had been diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
Drafted in the sixth round of the 1980 NFL draft by the Steelers, Ilkin often discussed how he did not originally make the Steelers roster but was called back to re-join the team during the season.
