The Pittsburgh Steelers have elevated CB James Pierre from the practice squad to the Active/Inactive roster ahead of Sunday’s New York Jets game, the team announced today.
Pierre is expected to dress and play. His primary role will come on special teams as a gunner, a role he’s held and performed well in throughout his career. He’ll also serve as backup cornerback depth though Brandin Echols is expected to be the Steelers’ next man up at outside and slot cornerback.
Once the game is over, Pierre can return to the practice squad. Players can be elevated up to three times over the course of any given season.
