The Steelers always knew Jalen Ramsey could play safety, but they can only ask him to do it because of guys like Brandin Echols. The other other cornerback the Steelers added this offseason, Echols has stepped up for the defense. Developing into their primary nickel defender, he is increasingly seeing a larger role.
And that is helping to allow the Steelers to move Jalen Ramsey to safety, as DC Teryl Austin explained about Echols.
“From the beginning, the one thing we really liked about him is in terms of his competitiveness and how he approaches each day,” he said via transcript provided by the team’s media department.
